Thoughts on Time
Some musings from me
86,400 seconds. Each day, I have 86,400 seconds. I watch them fly past me. There goes one. There goes another. Another. Another. Another. Time I’ll never get back. Time that fleets. The unredeemable currency that only gets spent and not earned. I can make more money. I can make new friends. New lovers. New haircuts and clothes. New tattoos and piercings. New muscles. We always say, we can make time for that. But, what we mean, is we can spend time for that.
I am good at wasting time. It’s like a skill that I have honed to near perfection. As if every second isn’t precious, as if my death will never arrive, and my bucket list will be ticked off, one day. Tomorrow, or perhaps next week. The pushing forward of responsibility. The switching off, tuning the mind to static. Following thoughts that break bridges. Taking a step into the unexpected, an imprisonment, for what will other people think?
Well. Who cares?
This is what I now remind myself every moment. Every second I allow myself to drift into self-sabotage. This is wasted time. It will not return. The seconds make up the minutes that become hours and days. And so on and so forth, but you know that, this isn’t primary school.
Each second you get is a gift. Each moment you receive is an opportunity to understand who you are, what you want, and to stride forth with purpose and clarity. That is not to say that rest isn’t important. If you need to spend your time chilling and watching some trash tv, cuddling all day, walking in the park, reading, general R&R, well, do that with purpose too.
Treat time with the respect it deserves. For it only moves one way. You can fight it, but it will always win. So make time your most valuable asset, and spend it wisely.
